Amanda Gorman started writing when she was just a little girl in Los Angeles, California. She worked hard to overcome obstacles as a child including a speech impediment and hypersensitivity to sound. In 2017, Amanda Gorman was named the first-ever National Youth Poet Laureate of the United States, and in 2021 Amanda became the youngest poet in American history to read at a Presidential Inauguration, inspiring audiences around the world with her original poem “The Hill We Climb.”
Today at age 24, Amanda Gorman writes for the New York Times, has won countless awards and nominations for her work, and is currently working on three books! Every day she uses her voice to raise awareness for important issues such as equality, social justice, and climate change.
Kids can make their own book to write poems that will inspire and change the world!
