Smartphones and tablets are cool new canvases for creativity — and while sometimes there's just nothing better than a good old notebook and some colored pencils, creative art-making apps are an awesome way for kids to bring their creative vision to life! From digital drawings to 3D animations, their imagination is the limit when it comes to the creative process with these art-making apps!

1. Just a Line

Imagine doodling with your fingertip in thin air and then being able to walk around — and even through — your elevated masterpiece! Just A Line is an app (available on Android and iOS) that allows your kids to do just that, creating an augmented reality where they can illustrate simple line drawings on their phone and see them hover before their very eyes.

2. Draw It!

Your kids can put their creative doodling skills to the test with Draw It, a rapid-fire drawing game (designed for iPads) where they compete with other players and the clock. Testing their speed and drawing ability, the app makes sketching into a head-to-head game of accuracy and instinct.

3. Toontastic 3D

Lights. Camera. Play! Toontastic 3D introduced animation art to little creatives and allows their creativity to really shine by putting them in the director’s seat to produce their own cartoons! Kids can draw, animate, and narrate characters from their imagination and bring them to life in 3D.

4. How To Draw

The interactive drawing app How To Draw guides kids step by step to help them create a drawing based on a category of their choice. They can follow the prompts to trace the lines they see before them, and watch as the lines they draw come together to create a unique character, place, or thing.

5. Doodle Buddy Paint Draw App

Kids can sketch, smudge, and draw on photos, or choose from dozens of colorful backgrounds on the Doodle Buddy Paint Draw App. They'll be able to create mixed media art and achieve the effects of their favorite art mediums (without the cleanup), including pastel smudging, sketching, painting, and more, using just their fingers. Aside from illustrating freehand, they also have access to a variety of stencils and fun stamps to add sharp, clean lines and add patterns to their handiwork.

6. Scribblify

Scribblify lets your kids tap into their wildest creativity while creating a spectacular drawing with the use of 140 handcrafted brushes that are unique in appearance and behavior. From kaleidoscope and mirror drawing modes to neon color effects, they'll never look at scribbling the same way again!

7. Tayasui Sketches

Kids can emulate the look and feel of wet watercolors, acrylic oil paintings, and sketches using one of the most realistic drawing tools out there: Tayasui Sketches. This app allows them to create stunning digital masterpieces that give the effect of drawing on paper while providing exciting editing tools that take their creativity to the next level.
