Students at the school of rock know you can’t play them rockin’ riffs without an instrument! Grab some rubber bands, sparkly glitter, and put on some crafting tunes, because it’s time for your crafty kiddo to rock out with their very own custom guitar.

What You’ll Need:

  • A shoe box, or similar-sized box

  • Large straw

  • Rubber bands

  • Paper towel roll

  • Pipe cleaners

  • Stickers or stick-on gems

  • Hot glue gun

  • Exacto knife

  • Markers

  • Colored duct tape

1. Use an Exacto knife to cut a round hole just above the center of the box.

This step is for the grown-ups only.

2. Decorate your box and paper towel tube using markers.

3. Cut a large straw in half and glue them down.

Use hot glue to secure each half just above and below the hole.

4. Stretch the rubber bands over the box

Stretch the rubber bands lengthwise so each one rests over the hole in the middle, and the straws, just like guitar strings!

5. Use hot glue to attach the neck to the box.

Glue over the rubber bands to help secure them. Only adults should handle the hot glue gun.

6. Tape the rubber bands to the bottom of the box.

7. Wrap pipe cleaners around the top of the neck.


Camp Crafts

Wrap them so that they resemble tuning keys. Twist the extra bits of the pipe cleaners on each side into ovals.

8. Decorate your guitar with stickers!

9. Tape the rubber bands to the top of the box.
