Sometimes a gift is about the most awesome toy of the moment, the one they’ve been waiting for all year, begging for around the holidays. But sometimes it's about something else. Sometimes it's about developing stories and history with your family. These heirloom quality toys are the ones that your kids will be passing down to their kids.

1. GUND Jumbo Philbin Bear

A classic teddy bear is the quintessential cuddle buddy for everything from tea parties to bedtime stories, and no one does them better than GUND. GUND has been making teddy bears and other stuffed animals for kids since 1898, and they always use quality materials that will produce the softest hugs.

2. Areaware Blockitecture

Areaware strives to make museum-grade toys that are crafted and designed by the best artists. Their Blockitecture series is a reinvisioned take on your classic block set that is inspired by real-world architectural styles such as bauhaus, art deco, and even industrial. They will look just as good up on a shelf as they do on the floor of the playroom.

3. Maileg Ballerina Rabbit

This beautiful Danish doll is made of materials that are guaranteed to last a lifetime. Her whimsical ballerina dress will make her the perfect addition to any talent show. She, like all Maileg products, is a limited release and will become a collectible that your little dancers will look back on fondly.

4. Bruder MACK Granite Halfpipe Dump Truck

All Bruder trucks are manufactured at the company’s factory in the small town of Burgfarrnbach in Germany. They have remained family-owned since their founding in 1926, and this commitment to detail is shown in the quality of the line of trucks including this dump truck. The process and designs have been passed down just as we hope the trucks themselves will be.

5. Cuddle+Kind Skye the Mermaid

The best heirloom toys have a powerful story attached to them. Each Cuddle+Kind doll is hand knit, loomed, embroidered, and crocheted in Peru by local artists who are paid fair wages. They are made from premium natural cotton that is ethically sourced and a delight to cuddle (as the name would suggest). They guarantee a long lifetime for your babies and their babies too.

6. Madeline

Set in a Paris boarding school, “Madeline” is the story of the bravest little girl you’ve ever met. This classic of children’s literature was written by Austrian-American author Ludwig Bemelmans in 1939 as the first part of the Madeline series. Books like these are perfect for creating cherished memories between parents and children.

7. Little People, BIG DREAMS: Black Voices Book Set

An important part of sharing a moment with kids that they will hold onto is teaching them about figures in history who inspire them and also look like them. Little People, BIG DREAMS has taken that message to heart by creating stories about famous leaders as children that are fun to read and beautiful to look at. This set includes the stories of Maya Angelou, Rosa Parks, and Martin Luther King Jr. and will make a perfect addition to your library.

8. Schylling Planet Robot

For the past 40 years, Schylling has been reimaging classic toys such as Speak and Spell and this perfect replica of Robby the Robot from the 1956 sci-fi adventure “Forbidden Planet.” Like the original wind-up toy (and Robby himself), it’s made of metal and it’s a perfect addition for any collector.

9. Loog Mini Guitar

These three-string guitars are perfect for early-learners who need a more simple way into learning how to play. They are made from a combination of basswood and maple which makes them by far the best kids’ guitar on the market. Bond with your little ones as they play on this and you play on a standard acoustic.

10. Brio Deluxe Railway Train Set

Swedish manufacturer Brio has been making wooden trains since 1958 and they are quite good at it. This massive Deluxe set featuring dozens of trains, tracks, and world-building accessories will definitely be the most memorable holiday gift that your kids will want to hold onto.
