We’re stuck hanging around the house. Our minds wander as we think about all the cool things we want to make. This week it’s time to pull out the paintbrushes, the toolkits, and the musical instruments and GET CREATIVE.
1. Kid Made Modern Arts and Crafts Supply Library
Is there a better possible way to start your day of arts than with a library of all the essential supplies? This robust 1250-piece kit from Kid Made Modern is a cornucopia of crafting with everything you need from beads to googly eyes and pipe cleaners to popsicle sticks.
2. Hape All in 1 Easel
Picture your toddler sitting out on the lake adorned with a beret and painting the sunset. This easel is a magnetic whiteboard, blackboard, and paper roll holder all in one, so you will be ready to make your masterpiece on any surface.
3. 3Doodler Start Essential Pen Set
Are you still printing out objects on those big bulky 3D printers like a square? Well, now you can literally draw those bits and bobs into existence with the 3Doodler! It’s as simple as pressing the button and moving it like a pen. Just don’t forget to draw UP!
4. LEGO Classic Creative Suitcase
Go back to the basics with this 213-piece kit full of LEGO bricks in a variety of colors. No instructions this time around; just build whatever your heart desires! This is the perfect starter set for young kids and adults alike.
5. Polaroid Now i-Type Camera
The classic Polaroid camera is back and better than ever! Just like mom used to do at every holiday: just point, shoot, and print all the best memories. Now, these cameras have also been updated with new technology, including autofocus. Perfect for the budding photographer who craves instant gratification.
6. Loog Mini Guitar
You may not be ready for the big stage yet, but the Loog will get you jamming out on the front porch in no time! This beautifully designed beginner’s guitar is perfect for developing basic finger placements and strumming skills with its three-string set-up.
7. LiteBrite Ultimate Classic
Chalk (or poke, I guess) this one up as the second nostalgia trip this week. The LiteBrite brings back the classic pegs you know and love to create thousands of works of art using four different lighting arrays.
8. Mukikim Rock & Roll It Rainbow Piano
Bring your keyboard with you anywhere! The Rock & Roll It is the “fun-size” candy bar equivalent of the famous Big piano at FAO Schwarz. Featuring a built-in speaker, dozens of demos and tones, and playback, this is the perfect gift for any music lover who wants to jam out on the go.
9. Studio Creator Video Maker Kit
I bet you that Scorsese didn’t have this one when he first started! This kit has everything you need to make the next big blockbuster film. Use the LED ring and tripod to get the lighting framed perfectly on every shot and the green screen to create the zaniest background sets and effects.
10. Technology Will Save Us Electro Dough Project Kit
Tech Will Save Us has figured out how to perfectly toe the line between crafting and STEM learning with their ingenious kits. Take their innovative conductive “Electro-Dough'' and craft sculptures while learning how to build electrical circuits.
11. Art Play Activity Book
This is a personal favorite of mine. This activity book features gorgeous illustrations to show you how to use various materials. Everything in this book is super easy for kids to find and put together. A perfect guide for the next Picasso!
12. STMT DIY My Design Studio
Another great starter, this mini-studio contains 40+ tools, including watercolor paints, pads, and oil pastels. These are great, high-quality materials for the slightly more advanced painter in your life.
13. Artie 3000 Coding Robot
Learn how to code AND create amazing works of art with Artie. (Gee, I wonder where that name comes from?) Connect Artie to your computer or tablet and learn various scripts, including Java and Python, to teach Artie how to draw in real life. I may age myself here, but this technology is starting to get scary!
Keep your kids' imaginations stimulated while they’re stuck inside during the April showers. Magna-Tiles are easy to build with and will help kids develop spatial and tactile skills. And these beautiful translucent pieces will glisten in the sunlight during the inevitable May flowers too.
STMT DIY Custom Jewelry Case
Maybe painting and building aren’t your style, but you do fancy a lovely handmade necklace that will match your mask during your next outing. This DIY kit has all the tools you will need for a jewelry-making experience and comes in a case that can act as a perfect jewelry box too!
16. Melissa & Doug Band-in-a-Box
Be a one-person show or have a preschool jam session with this perfect collection of instruments. If you put together a group for battle of the bands, you’ll have to let me know. I play a mean kazoo.
17. Making in the Moment Paint-Your-Own Tea Party Set
Make all your teddy bears jealous by showing up to your next tea party with your own hand-painted tea set in tow. This kit includes a complete ceramic set and paints. Perfect for showing off your style or to give as a one-of-a-kind gift.
18. Bob Ross Monopoly
Okay, this isn’t arts-and-crafts itself per se, but Bob Ross is like the permed god of paint by numbers, so I’m going to let it slide. This board game celebrates the visionary’s life by letting you buy cabins and covered bridges with Happy Bucks while dodging IRS agents.
19. Kid Made Modern Confetti Crayons
Use these insanely colorful crayons from any angle to get dozens of unique blends. Their tonal design gives them crazy mixes of color without clashing.
20. Ooly Chroma Blend Mechanical Watercolor Pencils
The perfect addition to any of the art kits we’ve already shared. Simply start drawing with the lead-based pencil in any color and add water with the included paintbrush to transform your piece into a beautiful painting.
21. Ooly Make No Mistake Erasable Markers
Did you ever make the mistake of thinking that purple marker was actually dark blue, and now your ocean looks like grape juice? Now, you can erase and start over with these inventive erasable markers!
The best things never really go out of style, and that’s especially true when it comes to crafting!
