Visit Florida / CAMP

Cape Canaveral, Fla., is home to the Kennedy Space Center, NASA’s primary launch site for America’s space missions, and to the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex.

Just an hour from Orlando, it’s a perfect day trip. But Cape Canaveral and the Space Coast, as the area is called, is also a great destination on its own. Here are some of our favorite kid-friendly spots to blast off a full weekend of fun.

The Holiday Inn Club Vacations Cape Canaveral Beach Resort

You’ve seen one Holiday Inn, you’ve seen ‘em all, right? Wrong! This Holiday Inn Club is turbo charged with families in mind. The outdoor pool includes a lazy river and a four-story waterslide. The indoor kids’ area has a playground, video games, and daily movie screenings. And there’s even a mini golf course on site, so the whole family can putt-putt to fun.

Brevard Zoo

Brevard Zoo

Brevard Zoo has more than 880 animals from around the world, including creatures from Australia, Asia, Africa, and South America. A tree-lined boardwalk guides you through the habitats, but the more adventurous explorers can zip line through South America, paddleboat through wetlands, or kayak across Africa. The Indian River Play Lagoon, alongside the 20,000-gallon aquarium, offers a chance to cool off.

Canaveral National Seashore

Stretched across 58,000 acres of undeveloped beach, Canaveral National Seashore is a day at the beach like no other. Apollo Beach (with a free Wi-Fi station) or Playalinda Beach are great spots for swimming. The entire park is a habitat for 15 endangered species, including manatees, bald eagles, storks, and five species of sea turtles, so keep your eyes peeled!

Museum of Dinosaurs and Ancient Cultures

Go back in time at The Museum of Dinosaurs and Ancient Cultures in nearby Cocoa Beach. Located inside The Dinosaur Store, the museum includes a dino zone with skeletons and life-sized replicas of dinosaurs, as well as an ancient cultures area with mummified animals and a re-creation of King Tut’s tomb.

Long Doggers

Long Doggers

Each Long Doggers restaurant has indoor or outdoor games while you wait – and free (!) ice cream for the kids to reward good behavior. A full menu of delicious food (and a full bar after a long day) helps sweeten the deal.

Grills Seafood Deck & Tiki Bar

Grills Seafood Deck & Tiki Bar

While the words tiki bar might immediately grab your attention, the real attraction at Grills Seafood Deck & Tiki Bar is the outdoor dining, easygoing attitudes, and kid-friendly activities to help the meal run smoothly.

Pizza Gallery

Pizza Gallery and Grill on Facebook

An option to create your own pizzas besides a full menu of pastas and entrees — means there’s something for everyone at Pizza Gallery. Plus, the restaurant has a giant fish tank and large play area for little ones, so a cheesy pizza slice is the only thing melting down.
