Throughout December and January, Camp and VISIT FLORIDA are teaming up to send an intrepid Camp Counselor to some of the best spots in Florida for virtual sightseeing expeditions. We call it Travel Tuesdays, and we kicked it off with an out-of-this-world adventure to the Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Florida.

For our next pit stop, we’re heading down to the stunning Crystal River in, well, Crystal River, Florida to do some sight-sea-ing and make friends with the manatees.

Go Wild in Crystal River, Where You Can Meet the Manatees!

Crystal River, on Florida’s Nature Coast, is home to alligators, otters, bald eagles, swallowtail kites, and more! But manatees are the main attraction! Crystal River is the only place in Florida where you can swim with manatees in their natural habitat. You can check out how to kayak, paddle board, or swim with these gentle giants of the sea, and always make sure to mind your manatee manners.

Watch With the Manatees!

Manatees are typically found in shallow coastal areas and rivers where they feed on seagrass, mangrove leaves, and algae. Want to have a meetup from home? You can watch these gentle roly-poly creatures on underwater and above-water webcams at Blue Spring State Park and Ellie Schiller Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park.

Virtual Vacations Are Wild, but Want to Get Closer to Nature?

Visit Florida

Ready to head to Crystal River? You’ll want to fly into Tampa International Airport and drive (or take the bus) from there. It’s about an hour and twenty minutes north of Tampa. While you’re in the area, you can fill your itinerary with some wonderful places to stay, eat, and have fun with your family.
